The Summer Issue

Town, beach, or the quiet north — three different holidays.

On the cover — Mykonos  ·  Cyclades · Greece
From the editors

Mykonos in August is really three islands wearing one name. There is the town, Chora, all whitewash and late nights; there are the organised, glossy beaches of the south; and there is a quiet, windswept north that the crowds never reach. Choosing among them is the whole game, and this issue is about getting it right.

It is peak season, which means heat, prices and the meltemi wind. We think it's still worth it — if you know which of the three you actually came for.

The contents

  1. On the cover

    Mykonos

The full Mykonos guide is in production and joins this issue shortly.

  2. The Room

In town or on the sand

Base in Chora for the lanes and the night; base at a beach like Ornos or Psarou if you want to walk out to the water. Doing both from one hotel rarely works.

  3. The Table

    Beyond the beach club

The famous beach clubs are an event and a bill. The old tavernas in Ano Mera and the back lanes of town are where the island still eats.

  4. The Detour

    Delos

The sacred island next door is one of the great archaeological sites in the Mediterranean, and a short boat ride. Go early; there is no shade by midday.
