Elio Marchetti, the magazine's illustrations director, draws the covers and the illustrations and checks every photograph before it runs. Now and then he writes about one drawing: what is in it, what was left out, and the place behind it.

Elio runs the picture desk. He draws the magazine's illustrations and cover art, chooses and checks every photograph before it runs, and keeps the register of who made each image and under what licence. He also makes sure a picture is never used twice on the same page. Now and then he writes The Sketchbook, a short column about one drawing and the place behind it.
