Hook 'em on Paradise is a three-bedroom, three-bath villa inside the gated Judith's Fancy community on St. Croix's north shore, a short drive west of Christiansted. You will know it by the colour: the house is painted burnt orange, and the inside keeps going in the same spirit, with bright fabrics, tropical prints and teal and coral on white. It sleeps six.

The space
The main living space is one open room under a high white beamed ceiling, with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open onto a long balcony over the Caribbean. There is a telescope by the glass for the night sky, and rocking chairs on the balcony for morning coffee. The kitchen is fully stocked, with stainless steel appliances, granite counters and bar seating at a teal island.

There are three bathrooms, and each of the three bedrooms has a television and its own air-conditioning unit. The listing also includes a laptop-friendly workspace and allows long stays.

The setting
Outside is a large, curving private pool surrounded by tropical planting, with several places to sit: some under cover, some in full sun. A covered porch with striped outdoor sofas gives another shaded place to spend the afternoon. "Beautiful location and views from the home and pool deck," wrote a January guest; a June guest travelling with a one-year-old needed shade and found that the covered patio was "absolutely perfect, providing all day shade."

Judith's Fancy is a quiet residential neighbourhood on the hills of the north shore, close to Salt River Bay, where Columbus's fleet anchored in 1493 and where night kayak tours go out on the bioluminescent bay. Christiansted's restaurants, the boardwalk and the boats to Buck Island are a short drive east. The house sits under the community's HOA rules, which the listing asks guests to follow, and a car is the practical way around. St. Croix drives on the left.
Who it suits
A family or a group of up to six who want a pool and a view without the size of a big estate. A November guest wrote that everything "was perfect for our group of 6," and mentioned the pool, the quiet neighbourhood and the views in the same breath. It suits stargazers, early risers and anyone who likes colour. It is not on the beach; the north-shore beaches are a drive away.
Good to know
Three bedrooms, three baths and three beds; sleeps six. The pool is private to the villa. Each bedroom has its own air conditioner and TV. The home is in an HOA community, and guests are asked to follow its rules at all times. The listing marks it suitable for children and infants. The villa is managed and booked by SP Vacations (Sterling Point Real Estate) in St. Croix.
