Moko Vista is a two-bedroom house on a hilltop on the East End of St. Croix, built in the West Indian style: two storeys, white walls, blue shutters, and open rooms set up to catch the trade winds. The name is about the view. From the patio and the lawn the hills drop away to the sea, and one guest wrote that the sea and Buck Island were in view "without any obstructions." It sleeps four.

The space
The rooms are simple and bright, with white-painted beams and board walls. The living room has a leather sofa and built-in shelving, the kitchen is fully equipped and modern, with an island and stools, and there is a washer and dryer. Upstairs and down, the windows and shutters open to the breeze; a March guest found the wind cool enough to leave the air-conditioning off unless the wind noise bothered them.

There are two bedrooms and one and a half baths. The house runs on solar power with battery backup, which the listing says gives comfort and peace of mind. Bedrooms are simply furnished, with wood headboards and windows onto the green hills.

The setting
Outside there is a sunny brick patio with a propane grill, outdoor chairs, and a lawn at the edge of the hill. The neighbourhood is quiet. "It's so quiet except sound from nature," wrote one guest, who listed deer, hummingbirds and small lizards around the house; another called the view "worth booking" on its own and said the place made it easy to disconnect.

The East End is the quiet end of the island. Beaches, snorkelling, hiking, dining and shopping are a short drive, as are Point Udall and the trail to Jack and Isaac Bays. Christiansted is farther west. You will need a car, and St. Croix drives on the left.
Who it suits
A couple, two friends or a small family who want a hilltop, a breeze and a view more than a pool. The listing describes it as both family-friendly and romantic, and as a base for longer stays, with morning coffee facing the sea and evenings outside under the stars. It suits people who like to start and end the day outdoors; one guest rated the view highly "from sunrise to sunset." It also suits anyone who wants to be properly out of the way for a week. There is no pool, and the house is not on the beach.
Good to know
Two bedrooms and one and a half baths; sleeps four. Solar power with battery backup, a washer and dryer, Wi-Fi and free parking. One guest noted there was no mobile phone signal at the house, only Wi-Fi, so download offline maps before you drive up. The listing marks it suitable for children and infants. The house is managed and booked by SP Vacations (Sterling Point Real Estate) in St. Croix.
