Sunset Oasis is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo on St. Croix's north shore, a short drive west of Christiansted, in a beachfront complex with a pool and a hot tub. It has been renovated throughout, and it is an end unit, which gives it more light and more privacy than the apartments in the middle of the row. It sleeps four.
The space
The living room is long and bright, with tile floors, ceiling fans and windows on more than one side, and it runs through to the dining table. The kitchen has been redone with white cabinets, granite counters and a bar with stools, and it is fully equipped. A washer and dryer in the unit make a week or longer easy.
There are two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, so two couples, or a couple and a friend, each get their own. The bedrooms sit apart from each other, which helps when two parties share the apartment. The covered balcony, framed by a stucco arch, has a dining table and looks out over lawns and palms; it is the place for breakfast and for the evening, and the reason the condo carries its name.
The corner position is what sets this unit apart from its neighbours. Windows on more than one side bring in more light and a cross breeze, and there is one fewer neighbour through the wall. Ceiling fans in the main rooms and air-conditioning do the rest on warm nights.
The setting
The complex sits on the water, and the beach is a few steps from the building. Downstairs are a shared pool and hot tub. Restaurants, shops and Christiansted's boardwalk are a few minutes away by car, and a car is the practical way to see the rest of the island, from Buck Island trips out of Christiansted to Frederiksted on the west end. St. Croix drives on the left.
Who it suits
Two couples or a small family who want a renovated, easy apartment near the beach and near town, with laundry in the unit for a longer stay. It is not a villa: the pool, hot tub and grounds are shared with the complex, and there is no private outdoor space beyond the balcony.
