Shoy's Beach House is a six-bedroom villa inside the gated Shoys community, a few minutes east of Christiansted on St. Croix's north shore, with the beach at The Shoys through the back garden. It is built for groups who travel together but like their own door: the bedroom suites open onto a courtyard of palms around a stone fountain, and the shared rooms, the pool and the long gallery sit between them and the sea.

The space
Five of the bedrooms are private suites, each with its own bathroom, opening onto that central courtyard. A January guest who came with a family of ten called it "a perfect layout for couples or friends traveling together," and that is how the house is used. The main villa sleeps ten. A separate one-bedroom cottage on the property brings the total to twelve, but it is an add-on: the listing is clear that it has to be requested and paid for separately, whatever number of guests you enter when booking.

The shared rooms run under pitched ceilings of wood boards and white beams. The living and dining areas are large, the kitchen has generous counters, an island and an ice maker, and there are big televisions throughout; one guest counted screens of 65 to 85 inches. The laundry room gets its own mention in the reviews.

The setting
Outside is where the days go. There is a private pool and a hot tub, a long covered gallery with teak loungers and a dining table, and a garden of fruit trees and flowering plants that leads down to the beach. The house provides kayaks, cornhole and a flat-top grill. "The beach is through the backyard, but still plenty of privacy," wrote an April guest. Another left a useful warning: keep clear of the manchineel trees along the beach and the east property line, whose sap and fruit are toxic. The same guest's list of local wildlife ran to iguanas, deer and mongoose.

The Shoys sits on the north shore beside The Buccaneer, behind the Estate Shoys guard gate. Christiansted, with Fort Christiansvaern, the boardwalk, the restaurants and the boats to Buck Island, is a short drive west, and the listing recommends a car for everything else. St. Croix drives on the left.
Who it suits
This is a house for a family reunion, a milestone birthday or two or three couples sharing a week. One guest came for a 60th birthday; another group of ten had the children in the pool, the kayaks and the cornhole while the adults sat on the porch with the ocean view. The suite layout gives everyone privacy, and the kitchen is sized to cook for a crowd. It is less suited to a couple on their own, who would be rattling around five suites, or to anyone hoping to walk to restaurants.
Good to know
Six bedrooms in all: five en-suite bedrooms in the main villa, which sleeps ten, and a one-bedroom cottage that must be added to the reservation separately, for twelve. The pool, hot tub and fenced yard belong to the villa; the beach is shared with the Shoys community. A private chef, a butler and grocery stocking are available on request. The villa is managed and booked by SP Vacations (Sterling Point Real Estate) in St. Croix.
